Job Summary: The Town of Log Lane Village is seeking a forward-thinking, highly motivated, experienced law enforcement professional to serve as the Town’s newest Police Officer. Officers are tasked with fulfilling the town’s comprehensive police services and law enforcement program, including patrol, traffic enforcement, investigations, code enforcement, and administrative support services. Maintains a working relationship under general supervision, with other officers as well as members of the community and other agencies on police matters and performs other related work assigned.

Responsible for protection of lives and property in the town through the supervision of police functions. Work generally involves efficient operation of the police department through the control of activities, the determination of departmental procedures, the planning of departmental work priorities and goals, the implementation of programs, and the training, assignment, and supervision of all department members. We are a small department and rely on one another for guidance and support to help the police department run efficiently.

General requirements:

  • Maintain a constant presence in the community through regular patrols to deter crime and provide quick help when needed.
  • Secure crime scenes and protect evidence from tampering or loss.
  • Attend public events as security to help ensure peaceful attendance.
  • Help identify potential crime spots and activities which may result in criminal acts.
  • Remain vigilant regarding potential hazards or problems which could harm the public.
  • Issue citations for traffic and similar violations.
  • Apprehend those suspected of committing crimes.
  • Write daily reports of activities.

 

Position Requirements: Education, Training, and Experience: Proof of documentation for all minimum qualifications, and licenses and certifications as cited below, is required at time of application.

Minimum education:

  • This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent General Development (GED).
  • Associate Degree or equivalent (60 semester hours earned, but no degree). Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is highly desired but not required. A degree in the following areas is preferred; degree in criminology, social science, public administration, business management, a degree that’s law enforcement related, or a closely related field to any of the above mentioned.

 

Special training, certifications, experience, and requirements:

  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
  • Valid Colorado Peace Officer’s Standards and Training (POST) certification. Completion of a command level course of instruction, such as the FBI National Academy, or other recognized course of advance instruction in law enforcement practices is highly desirable, but not required.
  • Minimum of 2 years law enforcement – patrol, investigations, administrative setting with 4-5 years with rank of Sergeant and above. Detentions and community corrections will not be considered.
  • This is a working – Officer Position. Applicant may be required to perform shift work including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. The applicant must also be able to serve on an on-call status as required.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is often required to sit, talk, and listen. The employee is often required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to operate objects, controls, or other tools, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and heavy lifting is occasionally required.
